San Rafael Cable Railing – Las Colindas

Project Components

Project Overview

This San Rafael home has a new redwood deck built in terraces up the hillside behind the house, with a view over the rooftops to the hills. The owners wanted a railing that kept the upper deck safe without boxing in the view or hiding the new wood.

We built our ThinLine cable railing: 2×2 inch square aluminum posts fastened to the top of the deck and a flat 3×1 aluminum top rail, powder coated matte black, with 1/8 inch marine grade stainless steel cable run between the posts.

The black frame stands out cleanly against the warm redwood, and the thin cables let the view through from anywhere on the deck. Powder coated aluminum will not rust and needs almost no upkeep.

Like all of our railing, this system was designed, fabricated and installed by our own crew, and built to meet California code.
