San Rafael Cable Railing – Bonnie Bank

Project Components

Project Overview

This San Rafael home has a balcony that hangs off the upper floor under a deep roof overhang, with a flight of entry steps at the side of the house. The owners wanted one railing for both that kept the balcony open to the view.

We built our ThinLine cable railing: 2×2 inch square aluminum posts bolted to the outside face of the balcony and the steps, a flat 3×1 aluminum top rail, powder coated matte black, with 1/8 inch marine grade stainless steel cable run between the posts.

Mounting the posts on the fascia keeps the whole balcony floor clear, and the black frame matches the dark trim of the house. The thin cables let the view through from inside the big windows behind.

Like all of our railing, this system was designed, fabricated and installed by our own crew, and built to meet California code.
