Project Overview
This Aptos home stands in the hills above the forest, with a tiled roof terrace that looks over the treetops to Monterey Bay. The terrace is the best seat in the house at sunset, and the owners wanted a railing that left that view completely open.
We built our Base Shoe Glass Rail System around the terrace. The glass is 1/2 inch clear tempered, carried in a continuous base shoe mounted on the outside face of the terrace so the tile runs clean to the edge, with a thin aluminum top rail capping the panels in matte black. There are no posts.
Mounting the shoe on the side keeps every inch of the terrace usable and hides the hardware from above. From the yard below, the railing reads as a single band of clear glass along the roof line.
Like all of our railing, this system was designed, fabricated and installed by our own crew, and built to meet California code.
