Project Overview
This Half Moon Bay glass railing sits on a rooftop deck above the roofline, with an open outlook across the coastal plain to the ocean. On a deck that high and that exposed, a railing with posts would have chopped the horizon into sections – and the horizon is the entire reason the deck is there.
We installed a side mount base shoe glass railing system using the Q-railing Y-mount shoe. The shoe bolts to the outside face of the deck fascia rather than sitting on the deck surface, so none of the hardware takes up walking space and the glass starts right at the deck line. The panels are Starphire low-iron tempered glass finished with a thin aluminum top rail.
Starphire is worth the upgrade on a job like this. Standard tempered glass carries a green cast you notice most looking along a long run, or out at water and sky. Starphire has the iron removed, so the view reads true and the ocean stays blue rather than turning faintly green through the panel. We install base shoe glass railing throughout Half Moon Bay and the San Mateo County coast, from Montara and El Granada down to Pescadero.
