Project Overview
This Fairfax cable railing runs the length of a raised entry walkway and bridge on a steep, wooded Marin County lot. The approach to the house crosses an open drop that needs a code-compliant railing, and the owners did not want a solid barrier darkening the way in.
We installed our ThinLine cable railing system: 2×2 inch square aluminum posts in matte black powder coat, a 3×1 powder coated aluminum top rail, and 1/8 inch 316L marine grade stainless steel cable tensioned horizontally between posts. Cable railing was the obvious call here. The horizontal cable runs read as thin lines against the trees, so the walkway keeps its daylight and the redwoods stay visible from the front door.
Cable railing also suits a shaded, damp Fairfax lot. There is no solid infill to trap leaves or hold moisture, marine grade stainless cable will not rust, and the powder coated aluminum frame needs nothing more than an occasional wash. The same cable railing system carries on down the entry stairs, so the railing reads as one continuous line from the driveway to the door.
