Project Overview
This Pacifica cable railing runs the length of a coastal yard with an ocean outlook over the treeline. The lot sits close enough to the water that salt air drives the material choice, and open enough that a solid railing would have blocked the whole reason for the view.
We installed our ThinLine cable railing system – 1/8 inch 316L marine grade stainless steel cable tensioned horizontally between 2×2 inch square aluminum posts, under a 3×1 top rail. Cable railing suits an exposed coastal site: there is no solid infill for the wind to push against, and nothing for salt and blown debris to collect on.
The horizontal cable runs sit low against the treeline so the ocean stays visible from a seated position on the patio. Marine grade stainless cable will not rust in salt air and the powder coated frame needs nothing more than an occasional rinse. We install the same cable railing system throughout Pacifica, Montara and the San Mateo County coast.
