Project Overview
This stone terrace in Sonoma looks directly over the vines to the hills beyond. The owners wanted the railing to be effectively invisible from the seating area, so nothing broke the run of the rows.
We installed a side mount base shoe glass railing system using the Q-railing Y-mount shoe, bolted to the outside face of the terrace edge rather than the paving. Nothing sits on the walking surface and the glass begins right at the terrace line. The panels are half inch clear tempered glass with a thin aluminum top rail.
Side mounting is what makes it work here. Because the shoe hangs off the face of the structure rather than sitting on top of it, the terrace keeps its full width and there is no visible base line underfoot. From a chair the glass reads as a change in level rather than a barrier, and the vineyard runs straight to the horizon.
