Project Overview
This San Mateo horizontal railing runs along a low front deck facing the garden and the street. At that height the railing sits close to eye level from the path, so the detailing matters more than it would on a raised deck.
We installed our RectRail horizontal railing system – 1 inch by half inch flat rectangular aluminum bar between 2×2 inch square aluminum posts, under a 3×1 top rail, all in matte black powder coat and surface mounted to the deck.
Flat bar gives a low deck more presence than cable without closing it in. The horizontal emphasis makes the frontage read wider than it is, and powder coated aluminum handles a garden setting with no upkeep beyond the occasional wash.
