Project Overview
This San Francisco glass railing sits on a city deck in the Sunset, looking out over rooftops toward the ocean. On a narrow lot where every foot of deck counts, the owners wanted a railing that took up no floor space and left the view completely open.
We installed our base shoe glass railing system using a CRL 8bd shoe surface mounted along the deck edge, carrying half inch clear tempered glass under a 1 x 1 inch aluminum channel. A base shoe glass railing has no posts at all, so nothing interrupts the run and the deck keeps its full usable width.
Base shoe is the right system for a compact San Francisco deck. The continuous shoe spreads the load along the edge rather than at post points, the glass is easy to keep clean in a foggy salt-air climate, and with no uprights the railing reads as a single sheet from inside the house.
