Project Overview
The main view deck of this San Francisco home looks west across the Sunset rooftops to the ocean. On the one elevation where the view is everything, a railing with posts would have sliced the horizon into sections.
We installed a base shoe glass railing system here – a continuous shoe surface mounted along the deck edge carrying 9/16 inch clear laminated glass, with no posts and no top rail. The shoe is finished in white powder coat to match the horizontal railing used elsewhere on the property.
Base shoe glass railing is the right system for a view deck. With the load carried along the whole edge rather than at post points, the glass runs unbroken corner to corner, and from a seated position on the deck there is nothing between you and the ocean.
