## Project Overview

This Mill Valley horizontal railing wraps a house built into a wooded eucalyptus hillside. Decks, an elevated entry walkway, stairs and a bridge all needed railing, and with that much continuous run the owners wanted one system reading the same way across every level.

We fabricated and installed our RectRail horizontal railing system throughout – 1 inch by half inch flat rectangular aluminum bar running horizontally between 2×2 inch square aluminum posts, under a 3×1 top rail, all in matte black powder coat. Where the walkway and decks are elevated we fascia mounted the posts to the framing so the walking surface stays clear; on the flatter decks we surface mounted.

Flat bar suits a site like this better than cable. The horizontal lines stay crisp against a busy backdrop of eucalyptus trunks, the sections are rigid so there is no tensioning to revisit, and there is nothing solid to trap the leaf litter that falls all year. A separate cable railing section runs at the lower level of the same property.
