Project Overview
The lower decks of this Los Altos property look out through mature oaks toward the hills, and that run called for a different system to the vertical railing used closer to the house.
We installed our ThinLine cable railing system here – 1/8 inch 316L marine grade stainless steel cable tensioned horizontally between 2×2 inch square aluminum posts, finished with a 2×4 Ipe hardwood top rail. The posts carry the same matte black powder coat as the vertical sections closer to the house, with the Ipe picking up the warmth of the deck boards.
Cable railing was the right call for this elevation. The horizontal runs read as thin lines against the tree canopy, so nothing competes with the view, and the stainless cable needs no maintenance beyond an occasional wipe. Running vertical near the house and cable on the lower decks keeps one finish across the property while giving each area what it needs.
